'Intermediary Landscape'

"Kevin Foley's on-going project, 'Intermediary Landscape' , materializes in everyday landscapes, elevating sites of personal history into moments of quiet grandeur. The third generation to work for his family’s asphalt and paving business, Foley is intimately acquainted with an occupation often encountered as a nuisance yet intrinsic to daily travel. Foley photographs day to day on the job, inviting viewers to consider subjects often left unobserved by the outside world: piles of rubble, lounging workmen, and imprinted tire tracks become delicate arrangements of light and shadow suspended in time. Through these subjects and others Foley explores themes embedded in the paving industry and photographic medium. Both document a convergence of man, our inventions, and nature’s omnipresence while exposing notions of permanence, and of history, as transitory roads built from raw materials and memory."
